About Lunarity

Seattle-based Lunarity® is a musical entity reflecting the life and experiences of its founding member. From drifting off to sleep to a preview of Dark Side of the Moon, to tapping on the cage of One Brown Mouse, never imagining the subsequent roller coaster ride, to the gradual lessening of the tides under a waning moon... Both the songwriter and the music have been long in maturation.

It's been forty-plus years now since his basement-tape debut. An attic tape, actually. What was supposed to be a simple hello that turned out to be anything but. The resulting days of confusion were followed by increasing withdrawal and isolation, but eventually the storms subsided enough for him to rejoin the work-a-day world. After shoving his notebook of songs into the back of the bottom drawer. Fast forward thirty-odd years over many jobs, a second shot at college & the resulting career as an educator, and early retirement found him dusting that notebook off.

Lunarity's musical history can be divided in two, songs written from 1978 to the mid-'80s and those written from 2016 on. The debut album was originally envisioned as a collection of the older songs, reflections of hopes, dreams, love & angst. But newer compositions contemplating the interface of past and present or touching on modern-day turmoil kept cropping up. The debut album is comprised of about half of each. The rest of the earlier songs will just have to wait for the second.

The name of the band? Lunarity, from lunar clarity. A nod to the many moonlit nights spent alone or with cherished friends, in wooded parks and in front of fires at the beach, gazing up at the sky, talking, wondering. And to having been born under a full moon Cancri.

The name of the album? The first track "Post Due" was written in 1978, after sending off the attic tape; the last track "Brand New Day" was written in the summer of 2019 after a visit back home. 40 Years In indeed, plus one or two, with no time off for good behavior in sight.

The music? Lunarity's music is self-described as "old dude emo music", '70s~'90s soft rock interwoven with any other element that helps the message across. Best if you judge for yourself.
